How many observations do you do a month and on what format

There is no set number on how many observations are needed to be done per child, however you will find that typically a child is observed once a month at most centres. It also really depends on the amount of children in group. If you have less children you can probable observe them more regularly that once per month. The program needs to show that individual children's interests and needs are being developed and extended upon and one way of doing this is through observations.

The types of observations you use should be a variety. You shouldn't just stick to one method. Photo, anecdotal, learning story, time sample, jottings, developmental checklists can all be used. As long as it details the learning outcome achieved or the learning outcome being worked towards as well as evaluation etc.
