Hello,
I was enquiring if someone could lovingly help me. I would love to open my own childcare business. However I have no idea where to start and I'm very overwhelmed with the information I have found whilst researching. Im asking myself-- "Do I need to check with my bank how much of a loan I can take? Or do I find out how much all of my expenses are to buy land/ build/hire staff/buy furniture, toys etc? Im just not sure. Id really love guidance please.
Thankyou, Rebecca.

Hi Rebecca,

It is very overwhelming once you begin researching... There is a ton of information available and it's hard to understand what needs to be done!

First off do you have any experiences working in childcare? Do you have any qualifications? If not, it may be helpful to think about getting a qualification just so you understand the legislations, policies, law, responsibilities etc. that you will need to be thorough with when owning a centre.

When starting a childcare business there are many different types of childcare services you can offer within the community. Before deciding on which service you would like to start it’s best to do some research in the locality you’re planning to run your service. Find out the community needs and see what type of service would suit the needs of the community best. For example: in the locality if there are 3 long day care centres offering care for 0 – 5 year olds, it may be beneficial to start up a preschool service which focuses primarily on school readiness.

So, it's best to get an idea of what type of service you want...

Hope following factors will help you
  • Attend a licensing orientation to learn the rules and regulations of running a center-based childcare center in your community.

Determine how many children you are going to care for and the age groups you will service.

Choose the building you will use to run your center based childcare.

    Fulfill your licensing requirements.

    Prepare your center for inspection

Hire people to staff your childcare center.

It's great you got experience and your qualification which really really helps! Yes, I understand that the workplace environment can be a little hard at times but if you are thinking of opening your own business it's probably going to get a whole lot harder having to deal with staff! Although, as an owner you have the option of who you higher which I guess is a big positive!

Good Luck with the research and I'm here if you need help!
