There are no minimum hours for part time work, except you work less than 38 hours per week. You should be offered a contract which states your weekly hours which is typically the same each week...

A part-time employee:

works, on average, less than 38 hours per week
usually works regular hours each week
is entitled to the same benefits as a full-time employee, but on a pro rata basis
is a permanent employee or on a fixed-term contract.

Part-time employees get the same minimum entitlements (such as sick leave and holiday leave) as a full-time employee, based on how many hours they work each week.

Hope this helps,

Awesome thank you!
My hours were varying so much and I was wondering!
Is there a minimum shift length I have to do, just off the top of your head don't search too far for it :-)
Have a great day

No problem!

From what I understand, you need to at least do 2 hours minimum per shift...

Hi,
What about overtime, if a perm part timer works more than 8 hours in one shift (excluding lunch) should overtime be paid? I have 8.5 hour shift should I be paid overtime for half an hour?

According to Fair Work Australia:
Part-time employees get overtime rates if they work:

-more than the maximum number of ordinary hours per week
-more than 8 hours in a day
-more than their normal hours if they haven't agreed to work more
-outside their agreed times of work if they have been given less than 7 days notice (unless it is an emergency situation), or
-outside the spread of ordinary hours of the early childhood service.
