'Case Study 7
You are working in an early childhood education and care service that asks families to provide their children’s meals. A student undertaking studies in early childhood education and care has recently commenced their first professional work placement at the service.

Clearly state the regulatory requirements the student must be informed of.'

Hi,

I need some help with this scenario. My Food Handling Checklist was accepted, but I could not find out which regulation belongs to this case study. I thought Regulation 77-79 are correct. After that I found Regulation 168 in my text book, but my assessor passed back all of them and suggest me to read through the National Regulations again. I did it, but I cannot find any other possible regulation... :(

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Thanks,

Maria

Ok I just went through the entire regulations as well and like you had suggested that's all I found as well... The only one I found that you didn't mention is this (particularly about child's dietary restrictions and allergies):

Health information to be kept in enrolment record

The health information to be kept in the enrolment record for each child enrolled at the education and care service is—
(a) the name, address and telephone number of the child’s registered medical practitioner or medical service; and

(b) if available, the child’s Medicare number; and

(c) details of any—
(i) specific healthcare needs of the child, including any medical condition; and

(ii) allergies, including whether the child has been diagnosed as at risk of anaphylaxis; and

(d) any medical management plan, anaphylaxis medical management plan or risk minimisation plan to be followed with respect to a specific healthcare need, medical condition or allergy referred to in paragraph (c); and

(e) details of any dietary restrictions for the child; and

(f) the immunisation status of the child;

Hope this helps,

Thanks Lorina, I try it.

I copied the whole task:

'Develop a checklist which identifies the key information and practices you need to provide to the student during their orientation to ensure that they carry out food-handling, preparation and storage according to policies and procedures typically available in an early childhood education and care service, and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
You may access relevant policies and procedures of an education and care service to guide your answer. Name the policies and procedures referred to, and submit with your completed checklist.
Clearly state the regulatory requirements the student must be informed of. '

As I wrote my checklist was accepted, and Reg77-80 or 168 is incorrect. What is your opinion about Food Standards Australia?

Thanks again,

Maria

I think that you may need to add the National Quality Standards (NQS). These are also in the regulations (schedule 1). So from the seven quality areas, maybe choose which ones that apply for the scenario above...
