The Smith family has always paid their fees on time but is now three months in

to help them catch up. The carer notices that both Mr and Mrs Smith seem to be
anxious and preoccupied. The carer wonders whether he should ask if the family
require further assistance.
I. Is this a privacy issue? Why? Why not?
II. As the carer, what would you do?

If you notice a family struggling, with payments etc, it will be a good idea to approach them and discuss the issue. They will let you know whether or not they need further assistance. In regards to whether it is a privacy issue, in my opinion if a family owes the centre money then it’s the family’s responsibility to pay. That’s why if they are struggling it’s best to approach them to try and support the family and work out this issue.

Talk to the director, before approaching the family with your concerns.

Hope this helps,
