Developmental Milestones For Young Infants

Hey Everyone,

I have just started my certificate 3 course in childcare studies through correspondence. For one of my assignments I need to create a developmental milestone checklist for young infants (birth to 8 months). I just need to complete the table they have given me. Does anyone have any suggestions on any developmental milestones for young infants that you can help me with?

Thankyou

Hi There,

I was just wondering what developmental learning areas do you need to cover to create your developmental milestone checklist?

Hi Again,

The developmental areas that I will need to cover are cognitive development, physical development and social emotional development.

Thanks for your help!

Some milestones include:

- uses reflexes and senses to understand the world
- puts everything into mouth
- cries to signal pain or distress
- follows objects with eyes
- looks at own hands
- looks in direction of sound
- babbles using all types of sounds
- reaches for & grasps toys
- rolls over
- lifts head,
- holds head up
- moves body to be lifted up or fed
- transfers objects from one hand to another,
- holds own bottle, begins to look for dropped toy
- sits up without support
- crawls
- prefers the sight, smell and sound of familiar people (parents & caregivers)
- likes to be held close and cuddled
- smiles and makes eye contact
- very interested in people
