Hi, I really need some guidance within this module. Any feedback would be muchly appreciated. Could someone please read over the answers I have provided as I'm not sure if they are correct or not. Thanks

Question 1: please provide some examples of communication strategies which-
a) show respect for cultural diversity:
- listening to what others have to say before expressing your viewpoint
- never butting in or talk over another person
- encouraging others to express their opinions and ideas
- improving your work by using others’ ideas and credit them for their ideas
- never putting people down, disparaging them, calling them names or insulting them
- no belittling, criticizing little things, demean or patronise others, as a series of small comments over time can amount to bullying

b)reduce or eliminate bias and discrimination:
-Treat all co workers with respect
-share information about cultural practices
-understand and accept cultural differences
-work at improving your communication skills
-resolve conflicts early

c)contribute to the development and maintenance of good working relationships:
- responding sensitively and appropriately to children’s conversations
- making children feel secure and welcome in the service
- encouraging children’s confidence as communicators
- providing play experiences and environments that encourage communication and positive
interactions with others
- providing an environment that genuinely reflects the cultures of the children – providing
resources, books, images, posters, objects that are inclusive to the cultures represented at
in your class, school and the local community

d) make people feel valued and welcomed:
-good communication techniques
- engaging with respectful practices
- building and developing trust built on proven track record of cultural considerations on your part
-ability to acknowledge the traditional owners in a formal and respectful manner – not tokenistic

I'm unsure if these answers are correct??

Question 2: how can you access support feedback training and resources regarding cultural diversity?
One of the best ways to seek information regarding other cultures is to contact an organisation which works within this community. Some examples of such organisations can be found at the Brisbane community directory. These services include
-a new tomorrow
-Australian red cross
-community service (LIBERIA) Inc
-DIAC
-Greek respite centre
-harmony place
-Maori community centre
-multicultural affairs qld OR through Internet

Question 3: list some specific cultural requirements of the indigenous community which needs to be acknowledged and catered for when providing service to people from this community:
the mentoring relationship
needs to be longer than 6 months, short-term mentoring wasn’t overly effective
 regular contact was required, and focus on positive goal acquisition was essential
 involving family’s in the mentoring relationship was highly successful
 experienced mentors were of the most benefit

Question 4:what are some of the key difference between working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and working with people from indigenous backgrounds?

Question 5:describe culture shock as it relates to
a) people from a diverse cultural background
b) indigenous background

Also can you check this case study
Chris is almost 5 years old. Chris was telling Ivy, the carer about his birthday party, he is excited and starts telling Ivy the names of his friends coming to his party. Ivy is surprised as Chris hasn’t invited Leigh, Chris and Leigh are always together and playing in the centre. Ivy asks Chris why he hasn’t invited Leigh, Chris tells Ivy that he is having a super hero party and Leigh doesn’t look like a super hero, so Leigh can’t come.
1. How can Ivy assist Chris to see the value of differences between people without making Chris feel guilty or uncomfortable?
Explain honestly but still in a way that respects the children. Ask Chris if he is being fair in saying that Leigh doesn't look like a super hero so can't attend his party. Ivy could then find some characteristics that they both have in common to show Chris the similarities between the both of them

2. What experience/ activity could Ivy carry out that say within the service to encourage and support all the children to overcome stereotyping people or their culture? Have a dress up day and supply different types of costumes like superhero and princess costumes etc. Also by talking about the similarities and differences, story time etc

3 How can Ivy extend the concept of self-identity for all the children in her care??

Any feedback would be great, thanks
