Hi,
I'm having trouble to answer this assessment, the question is:
Your name is Alex and you work at a women's service. Rebecca and her two children have just been admitted to your service. Her two children are Jessie (6 years old) and Paul (2 years old. The next morning, Rebecca asks if you would mind looking after the children for 30 minutes as she needs to go down to the bank. You tell Rebecca that is not a problem and take her time. Rebecca leaves and you tell the children that you have a special treat for them in the kitchen.
You take Jessie and Paul to the kitchen and Jessie sits down at the dining table. You place Paul in the high chair. Jesse takes of her jacket and you notice dark bruising up and down her arms. Jessie sees you looking at them and tell you " Mummy says that it is because I am horrible girl". Jessie lets you know that her mum tells her that she is annoying and that her mum grabs and shakes her until it really hurts. Jessie also tells you that when Paul leave his toys lying around or when he won't stop crying, her mother hits him hard until he is really screaming loud.
a) what would be your non-verbal responses to the child disclosure?
b) what would be your verbal responses?
c) would you explain to the children what might happen next? why/why not?
my answer:
(a) Document accurately
Affirm the information – acknowledge and affirm the youth and acknowledge choices
Report/refer – respond to organizational policies
Establish accurate records and execute care of self
(b) Hear honour the child and the information
Emphasize encourage
Affirm the child knowledge the choices the child has
Report/ Refer respond to organizational policies
Document accurately; determine care of self as hearing disclosures may be emotionally
difficult
c) Child might think this is the mother's fault, the children is think is their faults
thanks
