Hi Lorina,
I need help with following questions.
What are the steps you need to take when submitting a notification of harm to the correct authorities?
What am i missing?what are the steps needed when reporting?
My answer:
Procedures for Reporting a Child at Risk of Harm are;
Used https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/hea ... procedures & learners guide as guidance
• Notes – record the observation with Date and sign.
• Observation – record what we observe, and date and sign the entry.
• Consulting managers/teammates – Getting support and advice from our teammates and supervisors & Compare the entry’s by solving possible strategies.
• Action plans – familiarising ourselves with the employer’s procedures and processes & what needs to be done.
• Having conversation with the kid – Respecting the child’s or young person’s need for privacy and confidentiality.
• Talk to the parents – only if we believe that it will not cause any harm (safety, privacy is considered as a priority of any centre/by educators) to the child or young person.
Neatly prepare a report next of the incident observed with no assumptions but with facts and accuracy .
Mandatory reporters are people who deliver the services, wholly or partly, to children as part of their paid or professional work. Examples of mandatory reporters are:
1. psychologists, social workers, caseworkers and youth workers
2. teachers, counsellors, principals
3. child care workers, family day cares and home-based care etc.…
Mostly, maintaining confidentiality of all children are important at all times.
If for any reason a staff member is unable to approach their director/coordinator, they need to contact the Manager Children’s Services on reporting the issues.
All mandatory reporters, who suspect, on reasonable grounds, that a child or young person is at risk of significant harm should report their concerns to the Child Protection Helpline by calling 132 111 (24 hours / 7 days)
