CHCIC302A - Scenario: Amarina - Supporting Aboriginals In EC
Posted: Fri Jul 08, 2011 12:20 pm
Hello,
I am studying my Cert III and currently undertaking this unit. I am having a bit of trouble completing the assignment. Can someone help me?. Thank You
Amarina is a 3 year old indigenous child who has commenced care within your service. She will be attending your service 4 days per week. She and her family speak very little English and have moved to your suburb due to Amarina’s brother being sick and requiring additional medical
treatment. Amarina has moved with her mother, father, brother, aunty and grandmother.
Based on this scenario, answer the following questions:
1. List the methods of communication you will use to liaise with the child and the family in a
culturally sensitive manner. Outline body language, verbal communication, protocols and
gestures which you will need to use in order to ensure your communications with the child
and family are appropriate and culturally sensitive
2. Outline the areas of information you will need to source from the family. What topics will
you need to discuss with the family in order to find about their culture which will allow you
to care for Amarina in a manner which reflects high quality care.
3. List one (1) support agency within your area which could provide support which will assist
the family as well as the educators of the service in communicating with one another. When
sourcing this support agency, be sure to list
• The name of the support agency
• Contact details such as a phone number and/or address
• The services they provide
• How you can access their services e.g.; via the internet, phone call, complete and
application form etc
Upon Amarina’s arrival, the children in your room have become curious about the different words
Amarina speaks, the way she communicates as well as her physical features such as her dark skin
and dark brown eyes. Curious questions and comments which have been forwarded to you by the
children have embarrassed Amarina and she is becoming withdrawn within the group care setting.
You decide to implement activities/experiences which reflect Amarina’s culture to support her
needs and build her self esteem and self identity.
With this in mind, answer the following questions:
5. List two (2) experiences/activities you could implement within the group care setting which
would develop cross‐cultural understanding for Amarina’s indigenous heritage and culture.
Complete the attached lesson plan on e‐NIECE for these 2 experiences/activities
6. List one (1) support agency within your area which could provide support to Amarina as well
as yourself when integrating Amarina’s culture into the care setting. When sourcing this support
agency, be sure to list
• The name of the support agency
• Contact details such as a phone number and/or address
• The services they provide
• How you can access their services e.g.; via the internet, phone call, complete and
application form etc
