ACCCO has decided to run a Grandparents day next month on a Friday so both the long day care and family day care children will be involved. You will be playing a leading role in organising events and in particular, will be working with a group of 4-5 year old to collaborate with them and assist children to make decisions about what should happen on thi day.
1. What strategies would you use to find out about what the children would like to do on Grandparents day?
2. How would you encourage all children, including the quieter children, to share ideas?
3. How will you encourage children to consider new ideas they haven't heard of before?
4. What will you do to allow sufficient time for children to express their ideas?
5. How would you respond to the suggestion made by a child who said they would like a jumping castle ? Include how you will consider safety and legal requirements, and how you will acknowledge this child's ideas.
6. how will you, assist children to plan implementation of their ideas?
What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
1. Talking to the children and asking them what they think is special about their grandparents.
Find out from the children what their grandparents enjoy doing.
Have a group discussion and write down all the children's ideas and suggestions.
2. By going around in a circle and asking each child their ideas and suggestions
Asking the children questions about their grandparents etc
making suggestions
3. By offering suggestions and ideas and asking the children what they think of those suggestions
4. Allow enough time in your program/ curriculum to allocate time for group discussion/ share time
5. Acknowledge the child's suggestion, but point out to the child that a jumping castle for the grandparents would not be a safe activity and we want to keep our grandparents safe. Point out tot the child that while a jumping castle is a lot of fun for children, it wouldn't be much fun or safe for our grandparents.
6. Do up a poster board of all the children's suggestions.
Description and Message:
Just want to know if I am on the right track. Finding this assessment a little bit difficult.
Any added ideas and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
