Each of the scenarios in the following table provides an example of different developmental theory and/or term in practice.
For each scenario:
A. Identify the reason why the scenario demonstrates the indicated theory/term.
B. Suggest an experience that you could plan to support the child’s development in this area.
Scenario: Ziggy (9 months) is accomplished at crawling and is beginning to pull herself up to standing position holding onto furniture. She is skilled at reaching and grasping objects which she always places in her mouth.
Piaget’s Sensorimotor Stage
A. sensorimotor stage, When a baby is born, he or she starts developing both physically and cognitively. Physical skills include crawling, grasping, and pulling, as well as general physical growth. However, as babies develop cognitive skills, they start thinking about their behaviors and reacting to different stimuli such as noises, movement, and emotions. This is what defines the sensorimotor stage.
B. Provide a variety of sensory play and exploration experiences for Ziggy. Eg: nesting cups, edible finger painting, rainbow spaghetti, jelly play, coloured water etc.
Scenario: Chen (4 years 10 months) is attempting a difficult puzzle with the assistance of an Educator. She is able to put some pieces in by herself but needs to be guided by the Educator in order to complete the puzzle.
Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development: Scaffolding
A.Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development: Scaffolding is the difference between what a learner can do without help and what he or she can do with help.
B. ???
I have included one but i am stuck on the last.
