Sara (9 months) has been in care for two months. Whenever she is placed in a cot she begins screaming. She pulls herself to a standing position and sometimes flings herself backwards, arching her back as she screams.
i. In the scenario, identify Sara’s needs and how she might be feeling?
ii. Identify how the Educator can involve Sara’s family in meeting her sleep needs?
What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
With baby’s growing perceptiveness she can imagine the way she wants things to be. When she does not get her own way, she may show she is upset not just by crying but by working herself up physically too. Hold her tight if she starts to arch her back. Divert her to new activity she will quickly forget what upset her.
ii)Educator should discuss problem with Sara’s parents. Educator can communicate with Sara’s family about changing her sleeping routines and pattern that could help her sleep.
