Explain how an understanding of the nutritional requirements for children impacts on the foods offered to children in an education and care service?
- Good nutrition in early years is vital. The Food provided in childcare has an important role to play in the growth and development of children and in the development of future eating habits.
-It’s important that children in care are offered nutritious meals and enjoy positive mealtime experiences.
- The understanding of the nutritional requirements for children have a big impacts on menu planning at the childcare centers. They should aim to achieve a well-balanced and healthy diet which meet a significant amount of a child’s daily nutrition requirements. It should a variety of food including a range of textures, temperature, tastes, appropriate to the developmental stages of different age groups.
-List at least four of the government guidelines ( Get Up Grow: Healthy Eating and Physical Activity for Early Childhood, and/or Dietary uidelines for Children and Adolescents in Australia ) that apply to healthy children from birth to 18 years
- To achieve and maintain a healthy weight, be physically active and choose
amounts of nutritious food and drinks to meet your energy needs
- Enjoy a wide variety of nutritious foods from these five food groups
every day
- Limit intake of foods containing saturated fat, added salt, added sugars
and alcohol
- Care for your food; prepare and store it safely
