Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: chccs310a
Your Assignment Type: Case Scenario
Currently Working in Childcare? No
Your knowledge: Beginner
Your Question?
Jimmy is a 29 year old male, who has spent the last 10 years in the hospitality industry. His experience is predominantly managing bar and gaming staff. Recently, Jimmy has decided to make a career change and would like to become a child care worker. He has informal experience through babysitting family and friend’s children and has done over 100 hours of volunteer work at his local child care centre and currently holds his Cert III in Children’s Services. Jimmy has applied for the Assistant’s position advertised for your centre.
Out of all the applicants, Jimmy appears to be the most suited person for the position, however, the Director offers the position to Amy, an 18 year old female who has just left school and has no formal qualification or experience working with children. Your Director confides in you that the only reason she picked Amy over Jimmy is because Amy is a girl, and she fears that parents will be uncomfortable with a male as part of the team
How would you respond to your Director’s disclosure?
What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
i would tell her that despite her concerns, jimmy is the best candidate due to his experiences. also i would say that we need to create opportuniy for men in the industry as well. a childcare centre is a place of acceptance and diversity. a male would enrich to the diversity in the center.
