Both indoor and outdoor environments should facilitate children to both noisy and quiet experiences. when setting up the outdoor environment you can create areas for children similar to those inside. For example:

Indoor Quiet Areas:

- Puzzle and Manipulatives
- Book Corner
- Drawing Centre
- Computer Area

Outdoor Quiet Areas:

- Construction
- Art Area
- Book Area
- Sensory Area (play dough, shaving cream, etc).

Hope this helps,

At one work place, there was a tree towards front of yard and sometimes none thing was put there to see what the children wanted to do with it, many times I'd say it was the quite area, many of the quiter childrne wld just sit there and look out at the passing cars or people walking past, etc . I often used it as my lunch break area hehe. Outside area's like that I am sure can be classed as a "quite area" !!!
