Need some assistance to whether i'm on the right track or not.

Assessment acitivty 4 - Respecting similarities and differences and encouraging children to respect these differences.
Question 7. Choose one of these children and list some things you could talk about with this child to show them you are in tune with their interests.

So far i've gotten:
- When it comes to art time i could ask Luke whether he would prefer to use pencils or crayons to draw with.
- Have a chat to Luke when he is playing in the sand outside, asking him if he enjoys digging in the sand or building castles.

Just wondering if on to a winner or not? any help will be greatly appreciated :)

Hi Rhylan
I am thinking perhaps for respecting similarities and differences in the scenario of drawing it might mean discussing with children that their picture might look different to another childs but that is ok. For instance if Jane says ' I coloured my picture better than Joe coz he scribbled and went out the lines' gives you the opportunity to explain to Jane that Joe has done the picture the way he wanted to, and to point out that everyone has their own way of doing things and that is ok. You could point out the strengths in Janes and also in Joes pics.

For q7 I think it might be an idea to start of by saying something like "I notice that you really like playing in the sandpit Luke - what is your favourite thing to do in the sandpit?' this shows luke that you have noticed what he is interested in and also opens up things for him to describe what he likes. This can further be built on by you offering to supply trucks/pipes/sandpit toys/water etc to further build on his interest.
Hope this helps
