I am doing the Identify and respond to children and young people at risk and have come to part c and have srwn a blank, Im not sure i fully understand what is being asked.

Maria's parents are recent arrivals from overseas, and her parents are working hard to establish a business. Maria - age 11, is often left to mind her younger siblings while her parents work. Tonight her parents will not return home until midnight..

Brainstorm what cultural influances you believe impact on this family? I need lots of ideas as its a half page thats needed. :)

Cheers and thanks
Shailee

Think about the fact that the parents leave an 11 year old in charge of other children and the house , they obviously treat Maria like a responsible adult. In some cultures by this age children are expected to behave more like adults and less like children.
In some cultures it is not uncommon for older siblings to raise younger ones
Parents obviously come from a culture where long hours and hard work is expected of them

I would continue along these lines.
