Your Question?
Thomas is an 18 month old boy who attends our Centre on Tues and Wed. Today Thomas arrives with what appears to be burn marks on his back, legs, and arms. He also has burn marks that have blistered on his hands. The burns were not on Thomas the previous week when he was at Centre. He also has a fading black eye and brownish/purple bruises on both upper and inner arms. The mother and her boyfriend are pleasant, well dressed and seem concerned about Thomas. They tell you that they had bathed him and he accidentally turned on the hot water tap, burning himself. They said that Thomas is "a total klutz" and falls over & hurts himself "all the time". You communicate Thomas's injuries to a staff member who has come in to assist in your room. The staff member informs you that 3 months earlier, when Thomas was in the other room, he had similar bruises & marks from a fall in a bath. A) what type of abuse is likely to be occurring? B)In this situation how would you respond?

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
well it's definitely physical abuse, and I would report to room leader as well as centre director, as for staff member report her too as it was not reported earlier and report the family members too, to CIT or DHS as soon as possible. this is all I have and is this right or enough? Cheers Maria.
