Your Assignment Module Number and Heading: CHC30712 Mod 2 Assessment
Your Assignment Type: Case Scenario
Currently Working in Childcare? Yes
Your knowledge: Beginner

Your Question?
A parent has indicated that they are vegetarians and would like their child Carmen, brought up the same way. Your Group Leader in room has given Carmen meat for lunch and has said it doesn't matter as Carmen enjoys having the meat. The Group Leader says that it is selfish for the parents to make their child a vegetarian when the child obviously likes and wants meat.
Q1. What is the ethical issue in this situation?
Q2. What policies & procedures should GL be following?
Q3. Would you approach the GL or would you approach the Director and why?

What is your answer so far or What have you done so far as an attempt to solve this question?
Q1; issue is GL does not respect the culture and beliefs of Carmen's family as well as the child.
Q2. dietary requirements upon on enrolment GL should be following as has been requested by family not to eat meat, and notices should be put up for cook in kitchen, our kitchen so other staff know about the vegetarian in room, as well as name on bowl of food just in case child gets the wrong food.
Q3. Centre Director as GL knows about the child's background and chose to not obey their wishes, which could have made child sick. that is all I have, is it enough? Cheers Maria.

Q1: Here is the code of ethics... Have a look at 1.10, 2.3, 2.5 and 2.6:

Code of Ethics

Q2: anti bias/ honouring diversity, children records and information, nutrition

Q3: yes, definitely director! Not so much it will make the child sick but the GL went against parent wishes and chose to give meat to the child. It is the GL responsibility to ensure each child is getting the right foods based on their individual needs and requirements!

Hope this helps,
