I study my course online so my teacher has not given me much information regarding the training book but I have to create a work plan for when I go into my work placement but I am not sure what I am even supposed to write down and plan to do.

First day wasn't very good as I wasn't given any tasks and when I asked if they needed help with anything they didn't need it.

Ok, I'm not too sure but a Work Plan sounds like you may need to write up a plan of your working day. So, this means what you do when you arrive at work, task and duties you do during the day etc.

Do you have assessments that you need to complete while at work?

Also while on placement start familiarising yourself with the room routine. As in when they go outside, when they have morning tea and lunch, when they have group time etc. These all take place during the same time each day so you should be able to predict what's going to happen next. During this time rather than ask if they need help just do it anyways. So, for example, if children need to get hats and sunscreen on for outside you can help them say to the staff "I'll help put the sunscreen on now" or after morning tea and lunch you can say something like "I'll start cleaning up when the children have finished".

Don't take it too personally, while working in a centre it gets very busy and usually educators are in robot mode as in this and this and this needs to be done. Most of the time the educators working in the rooms are so used to doing everything amongst themselves when an extra set of hands come in (student) they don't really find anything for them to do. That's why you just need to step in there and basically find something to do rather than being told.

Hope this makes sense,

Let me know how it goes,
