Hi Groggy,

Welcome to the forum!

This is a great opportunity for you to connect with other students studying this year as you begin your course in early childhood education.

Studying through TAFE is a good choice. They are the leading provider of vocational training. Also all their courses are registered training organisations so when you receive a qualification through them it's valid throughout Australia.

The Cert 3 course in Early Childhood Education enables you to work with children from birth to 5 years. You will be studying different units based upon the national law, regulations and legal requirements of those needed for early childhood education. You will also be studying units on working with families, ethics, cultural competence and more.

Thorough out your units you will be doing assignments that you will need to submit to the TAFE teacher to show your understanding of the information given in each of the units. The assignments you will need to complete can be in any format. Questions and answers, scenarios, power point presentations and many more. The information for these assignments should be provided through your readings and textbooks however you may also need to RESEARCH to gain a better understanding. Whatever it is, you can almost find anything online and as long as you reference the information then it should be fine to use.

As part of your cert 3 it's compulsory to do practical placement. This means you will go to a childcare centre and spend a certain amount of hours there to get some hands on learning experience. So, you will basically work with other educators in the centre. Since you are a student you will not be paid. During your time you may also need to complete on the job assessments which requires you to collect information and complete tasks while at the centre.

Here is some more information:

Work Placement In Childcare

I hope I have given you a starting point of what you will expect during your cert 3 course. Working with children is very rewarding! It's also hard work but if you love working with children and want to make a difference in their lives then it's right for you,

Any support or any assistance you may need during your studies don't hesitate to ask. I'm here to help you through it and to guide your understanding. So, don't worry! You are not alone!!

I'll see you around the forum,

Glad I could provide you with the information you need...

Length of assignments depends on the course provider maybe 2 weeks and the more complicated ones a little longer. I'm not too sure because each provider differs. Regarding exams no you don't have exams but you will be required to pass all your assignments and practical placement for each unit. If you don't provide all the necessary info on your assignments then you will have to resubmit it again, as long as you follow the unit course guidelines then you will be fine! Also, you can't fail easily your teachers will assist you in order to pass...
