Part A - Resource Kit
In the Learner Guide for this unit, you were asked to compile a number of resources in your Resource Kit. It is now time to organise and extend these resources into a well-organised, up-to-date professional portfolio that you can utilise in the workplace.
Create a separate folder for your portfolio within your Resource Kit. Your portfolio should include your ideas and resources to support the development and wellbeing of the children in your care. Your ideas for experiences must support the development and wellbeing of children aged 0–6.
Divide your portfolio into five sections as follows:
• physical development
• language development
• social development (include emotional and psychological development)
• creative development
• cognitive development.
In each section, provide a minimum of three ideas for experiences that support the development and wellbeing of children of children of varying ages. At completion, you will have fifteen (15) entries in total (e.g. your section on ‘physical development’ will include three experiences).
Each entry should be a maximum of one (1) page and should be presented in a clear, well-presented manner that will make it easy to source and use in the workplace.
Each idea should reference a minimum of five (5) different sources such as books, journals, internet articles, CDs and so on.
The following information should be included in each entry:
• the name of the experience
• the specific age range (in years and months) for whom the experience is appropriate
• a suggested group size
• the skills supported by the experience
• the resources required for the experience (e.g. a list of equipment, the words of a song, a recipe, the procedure for playing a game)
• how the experience will be conducted (the method to be used)
• suggested interactions to support children’s efforts and achievements
• correct references/links for your sources.
In addition, provide a document in your file that outlines the basic links and resources that you will need for this topic in the workplace, including links to:
• the National Quality Framework (include the home page and links to information specific to this unit)
• the National Quality Standards (include the home page and links to information specific to this unit)
• legislation and regulations relevant to this unit
