Professional Recognition For NSW Early Childhood Teachers Ilmicrofono Oggiono

This is a great opportunity for ECT's in NSW to become accredited, which supports quality teaching and recognises the invaluable role you play within the community!

From 2016, if you are an ECT working in a long day care setting or a preschool you will need to be accredited by the Board Of Studies, Teaching and Education Standards.

To be accredited as a Proficient teacher you should be:

  • currently employed in full time, part time or casual ECT position
  • hold an ECT qualification approved or recognised by ACECQA
  • deliver and assess against the Early Years Framework

The Board of Studies, Teaching and Education Standards suggests that:

  • If you are currently an ECT under the NQF but have yet to complete your qualification you can only be accredited once you have completed your qualification.
  • For Directors in a LDC or Preschool with an approved ECT qualification although may not be "teaching", it is recommended to be accredited as this gives you the flexibility to teach in an early childhood setting.
  • If you a currently hold an approved ECT qualification however you are employed as a Diploma Level Educator at your current service you cannot be accredited as you are required to be employed as the ECT.

All eligible ECT's you will be accredited as a Proficient Teacher. This means that you will be recognised as a teaching professional alongside NSW School teachers.
