A new report by the Centre of Independent Studies found that some parents face wait lists for up to 2 years for a spot in the babies room - for children under 2.

The supply of early childhood services across the state is "uneven and fragmented". In some areas of Australia, there is an oversupply of services while others face shortages which cause the 2-year waiting list.

Fees have been increased by 20% since 2011, across all service types, and out of pocket costs for parents increased by 48%.

The reasons for the rising costs, according to Senior Policy Analyst Eugenie Joseph are due to the regulations increase educator to child ratios and minimum qualification requirements.

More parents are opting for childcare for support while getting back into the workforce. However, with the rising costs and increasing waiting list times, it's becoming more difficult for parents.
