Classification Levels For ECT's That Do Not Hold Or Not Required To Hold Registration In Early Childhood Services

For ECT's employed as an Early Childhood Teacher in a service and are on the Educational Services Teachers Award and who do not as of 1 January 2022 hold proficient teacher accreditation/registration and are not subject to a requirement to hold proficient teacher accreditation/registration, the classification levels changes in the new structured Educational Services Teachers Award.

Classification Levels

For the purpose of progression under the new classification structure:

(a) an employee classified at Level 2 pursuant in the table shall be deemed to have reached 3 years’ teaching service at Level 2 when the employee has:

  • 5 years of teaching service in total; or
  • 3 years’ teaching service at a proficient level; whichever comes earlier.

(b) an employee classified at Level 3 pursuant to the table shall be deemed to have reached 3 years’ teaching service at Level 3 if the employee has:

  • 8 years of teaching service in total; or
  • 6 years ’teaching service at a proficient level; whichever comes earlier.

Note: If the minimum payable amounts outlined under the new structure are less than the current rate the employee is on, there is no obligation for the employer to reduce the rate of pay.
