O's and X's

Tic, tac, toe is a simple game to encourage children to think ahead.

Draw a grid on the piece of paper (two horizontal lines and two vertical lines to make nine squares).
One player draws the X's and the other the O's.
The first player to get three X's or O's in any direction wins!

You can add more vertical and horizontal lines to create more squares.
When drawing the squares, you can show the children how to draw two horizontal parallel lines crosses by two vertical parallel lines to make nine spaces in three rows.

Appropriate Age: 3 year+
Number of Children: Couple (2), Small Group (4)
Developmental Milestones:
For a 3 year old child:

- Copies “O”.
- Imitates “X”.
- Talks in short sentences.
- Uses words that tell “where” (up. down etc).
- Count 2 or 3 things.
- Does simple matching.
- Does simple comparing.
- Understands same and different.
- Begins to take turns and share.
- Plays with another child.

For a 4 year old child:

- Correct pencil grip.
- Uses left or right hand preference.
- Uses many different words.
- Listens to and understands instructions.
- Matches objects.
- Identical copies images when drawing.
- Participates in directed experiences.
- Plays co-operatively with others.
