Flour Germs

To visually demonstrate how easy to spread germs when coughing and sneezing on our hands without washing them.

Add flour to a bowl or sprinkle it over a plate
Ask children to place their hands firmly ontop on the flour.
Explain to the children that the flour represents germs.
Give each child a few lego pieces, building blocks that they can play with using their hands for a minute or so.
After a minute ask them to stop playing and examine how the flour from their hands has now been transferred to the toys.
Discuss how when they cough and sneeze on their hands and don't wash them afterwards and they start playing with toys the germs get stuck to the toys they are playing with. When another child comes to play with the same toy then they also pick up the germs which gets stuck to them as well. So, it's important to wash your hands after coughing and sneezing.

Demonstrate how to cough into your elbow
Demonstrate how you sneeze into a tissue.
As Educators you should also follow the same procedure as you teach the children.
