DIY Father’s Day socks: kids decorate with love, add notes, and gift dad a creative, heartfelt present he’ll treasure and wear proudly.

Materials

  • Plain white cotton socks (new, clean pairs)
  • Fabric markers or permanent markers (variety of colors)
  • Cardstock or thick paper for notes/tags
  • Scissors and hole punch
  • Ribbon, string, or elastic bands for wrapping
  • Optional: Stickers, fabric paint, glitter pens

What To Do

  • Prepare the socks. Lay them flat on a clean surface. Place cardboard inside each sock to prevent ink bleeding.
  • Decorate creatively. Children can draw pictures and write messages.
  • Create a note. On cardstock, write a short message.
  • Attach the note Punch a hole in the card and tie it to the socks with ribbon or string.
  • Wrap and present. Place socks in a clear bag or wrap them.

Hints and Tips

  • Use washable fabric markers if younger children are decorating—less mess, easier cleanup.
  • Keep designs simple: bold lines and bright colours show up best on fabric.
  • Personalise the notes: let each child write their own message, even if spelling isn’t perfect—authenticity matters.
  • Protect the artwork: iron the socks (on low heat, with parchment paper on top) to set the ink and make designs last longer.
  • Encourage individuality: each pair can reflect the child’s personality—one may write words, another may prefer abstract art.
