Crumpled Paper Art

This is a great activity that can be made simply with paper. It’s an excellent activity to teach the tripod grasp to the kids. The tripod grasp involves the action fingers alone i.e. the thumb, the pointer and the middle fingers.

Materials

  • Coloured crepe/tissue papers
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • White drawing sheet
  • Marker

What To Do

  • Encourage children to tear the paper into small pieces of about an inch or two. Place them in a bowl.

  • Now ask the children to roll the bits of paper into ball like shapes.

  • For this activity they need to use only their tripod fingers i.e. the thumb, the pointer and the middle fingers. They need to use both their hands.
  • Next ask them to use the tripod fingers of the dominant hand alone to roll the crumpled paper into a tight small ball.
  • With the rolled paper balls children can create a picture.

Hints and Tips

  • Do not use normal paper for this activity as it may not give you the desired effect.
  • Ask children to make any picture like a leaf, tree or flower and ask them to decorate it with these colourful crumpled paper balls.
  • You can either fully make use of these balls in the picture or use it in parts to give a 3D effect. Just apply some glue on the paper and stick these balls.
  • Using of tripod fingers is mandatory here. Only then the kids can learn how to isolate them.
