Hi there
I was wondering the pros and cons of working in a childcare centre as a diploma qualified versus being a family day carer with 4 children to care for at home. Which one is better financially etc... many thanks :-)

Well first off they are two completely different environments...

As a Diploma qualified in an childcare centre you'll be a room leader in charge of a team depending on how many in your room and which room you will be working in. For example: 11 toddlers with 2 staff or this could be more in bigger centres. You are responsible for each and every child and their documentation include programming, you work under the Director and you will also work along side other educators in different rooms.

As a FDC Carer, you create your own work environment and work from home. You are responsible for up to 7 children per day. You will still need to create documentation and programs just like in a childcare centre. You can take the children to the local supermarket or to the playground, go on regular outings. It's easier since you only have a small number of children, even though you will still need to follow regulations...

Its up to you really...do you want to run your own childcare business from home or do you want to work in a centre?

Hi MummyDee,
As an FDC Educator you set your own fees, days of work and hours you want to work, you also claim and depreciate things at home and car etc.
