Childcare centre attached to a house?

Post by ProverbialPaul » Sat May 02, 2015 7:01 pm

Hello

Does anyone know if it possible to have a Childcare Centre attached to a house?

Someone told my wife it isn't possible but I have checked through the regs and can't find any information stating that you can't.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Yes, it is possible. I have worked at a couple of LDC settings that were located behind the house with one of the centres being attached. This particular centre (attached) had babies, toddlers and preschoolers. However, it was a completely separate building specially designed as an LDC which was attached to the house. We never had to go "inside" the house...

Hope this makes sense!

I thought that might be the case.

Someone had told my wife this info but I couldn't verify it when I read the regs.

They also told her that there cannot be an internal door from the LDC through to the house but, again, I saw no mention of this in the regs. Do you know if there is any truth in this?

Just for info, you wouldn't NEED to use the internal door to access the LDC (Seperate entrance) and could have it locked throughout the day so no one would ever need to go in to the actual house.

Thanks again for your help Lorina.

I remember that the office had an internal door directly to the lounge room of the house but this was locked throughout the day and only the owner was able to access it...

Are you planning to have a separate building?

Were not sure which route we want to take yet.

Were still crunching the numbers to try and find out what the most cost effective method of starting up will be.

Do we rent space and build? Do we do a leasehold? Do we buy an existing centre? Do we buy land and build? Do we buy a house and convert or buy a house and extend?

There's a lot of different options to consider and we haven't fully decided which route to take yet.

That's why I'm asking so many questions! lol

Thanks for taking the time to reply though, I appreciate your help.

It's a big decision to make so it's important to be fully informed!

If there is anything else I could try and help you out with let me know...

Good Luck!

Somewhere I did have a detailed document of the actual building requirements for LDCs
Do a search you may find it. I may have it on my laptop at home, if I do I will post it.
