Am I right for childcare?

Post by Shalala » Mon Jan 18, 2016 2:43 pm

Hi every i'm new to posting on this site and I have a burning question I really needed to ask.

My name is Shannon i'm 17 and I am quite a nervous person. I suffer from minor social anxiety with adults. I am great with kids and really enjoy coming up with programs and activities but struggle to communicate with the other educators socially. I have completed my cert III and am looking into a traineeship for my diploma (hoping work/studying will help increase my confidence)

Am I just not the right kind of person for this career I love every aspect apart from socially talking with other educators and I get nervous of what other people think of me too. But I have no trouble with parents.

Thanks for reading :D :D

It doesn't matter whether you are working in childcare or in an office you will need to make some social connection with others. Listen you're only 17 and you will definitely build up your confidence and be more comfortable working around others. If you are looking to be a Diploma Qualified - Lead Educator you will need to take on a leadership role and this means working with educators, telling them what to do etc. At the moment it may seem like a hard task but as you develop your skills, knowledge and abilities then you will gain more confidence and you will be able to do it!

Also, you should never worry about what other people think of you... Childcare can be a cut throat as we are a 99% woman strong industry working together... there is going to be cattiness, snarly comments, jealousy, hate between some of the educators just ignore it. Seriously, you are in childcare to provide quality education and learning to the children, as long as you are focused on what you are doing leave all the other "crap" behind! Keep your head held high and keep going. Don't get involved in all the "other" stuff. Be pleasant, be nice, be courteous, be supportive to the educators but never get involved in the bitchiness that comes with this job...

You'll be right!

Yes, you are perfect for this. I think you should more focus on development in child care and do not be nervous. Improve yourself where you are thinking that you can not.
