Scenario: Working With Students On Two Digit Addition

Post by mummyto3 » Fri Dec 09, 2016 12:52 pm

Mrs. Mack has also asked you to work with 3 students during Math groups. These three students are from both Years 1 and 2 and are the students who need the most assistance. Mrs. Mack has asked you to work with the children on basic two-digit addition, without trading. Example 32 + 24. These children have very little confidence in their abilities and become intimidated by lengthy worksheets full of number equations. They do however seem to understand better when concrete materials are made available to them.
Create 3 consecutive activities you could use with the children to help them work towards competence in basic two-digit addition, without trading. Keep in mind each activity should carry on from the last and build concepts they have learned. For each activity list the following information:
• Resources required
• Work sheet (where applicable)
• Instructions given to children
• Ongoing support techniques from you during this activity
• Outline how you as a teacher’s aide can use this activity to assess the children’s development.

Okay mummyto3 I belive this case you are looking a visual activities where they can actually visual see what they are learning. So try and look at things like counting objects, and little flash cards with things on it like characters that they will regonize. Also praise and rewards are a big thing with helping boost a child confidence as well. If you give them things like small goals with encouraging words examplaing what they we achieve at the end of it they will feel a lot more comftable with you and the project your are workong on . Hope this helps. :)
