Hi all, i'm a bit stuck on this one. first off the girl is under age, and in care. This should be reported right? Or have i got a duty of care for confidentiality? Help please?

Case study/Scenario 9 (CS9)
A young female aged 15 years comes into the youth agency where you work, demanding to see you. She seems very anxious and tells you that she had sex for the first time last night while at a barbecue on the beach and is now really worried that she might have a sexually transmitted infection or be pregnant. This young person is already a client of your service and has taken part in other agency programs. From your previous involvement with this girl, you are aware that she is under the care of the Department of Child Safety and is currently staying in a local youth refuge/shelter after her foster home placement broke down.
Specify any legal, procedural or ethical issues you would need to take into account when responding to this young person’s needs.

Hi Bigmama,

With your first question I don't understand it... Maybe I'm having a mind blank but what do you mean by " a girl is underage and is in care"...

With your scenario...basically if she has had sex under the age of 16 then legally and ethically speaking it is rape. I'm pretty sure the law states that you need to be over the age of 16 to have sex. Anyways, I would take her to the doctors and get the morning after pill for unprotected sex and also get her checked out for any s.t.d's she may have contracted. I'm not sure what the policy is in working in a youth agency but you would probably have to tell someone about it and note it down...like what she said happened and what actions you took. If she tells you that she was forced into having sex then you will probably have to report it to the police as well... Like I said I'm not too sure what the policy is working in a youth agency but you definitely have to tell the one in charge what is going on so they can also take the necessary actions etc....

Cheers :geek:,
